About Standard
What does Standard Fire Protection do?
Through four specialized companies, we install, inspect, test, service and monitor fire sprinkler, standpipe and fire alarm systems, and provide fire extinguisher services, commercial plumbing and gas work, and pump and motor service.
What are Standard’s four companies?
Standard Fire Protection (sprinklers and fire alarms), Ken-Mar Fire Extinguisher Co. (fire extinguishers), Standard Plumbing Services (commercial plumbing and gas) and Superior Pump & Motor (pumps and motors).
How long have you been in business?
Our teams bring more than 50 years of industry experience. Standard Fire Protection was founded in 2016, and Ken-Mar has served New York since 1970.
Where are you located?
Our headquarters is at 57 Mahan Street in West Babylon, New York, and we serve buildings across all five boroughs and Long Island.
Are you licensed?
Yes. We're a Licensed Master Fire Suppression Piping Contractor with an NYC DOB Licensed Master Plumber, FDNY Certificates of Fitness (S-12, S-13, W-96), Suffolk and Nassau County certifications and NICET Certified Technicians.
Inspections & Compliance
What inspections does my NYC building need?
It depends on the systems installed. The NYC Fire Code and the NFPA standards it references set requirements for each type of equipment. We'll identify every system in your building and build a schedule that covers them all.
What are S-12, S-13 and W-96 Certificates of Fitness?
They're FDNY certifications for working on sprinkler systems (S-12), standpipe systems (S-13) and portable fire extinguishers (W-96). Our technicians hold all three.
How often do fire extinguishers need inspection?
A monthly visual check by building staff and an annual inspection and maintenance by a certified technician, under NFPA 10.
Can you help clear a DOB or FDNY violation?
Yes. We correct the conditions, prepare the documentation and work through the city's process to clear it.
Can you take over from our current contractor?
Yes. We'll review your existing records, complete a baseline inspection and set up a schedule from there.
Systems & Retrofits
Do you handle renovations and retrofits?
Yes. We alter, upgrade and overhaul sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, plumbing and pump systems for renovations and code updates.
Can your master plumber sign off on DOB work?
Yes. Our NYC DOB Licensed Master Plumber can perform, sign off and self-certify commercial plumbing work in all five boroughs.
Do you sell pumps and motors?
Yes. Through Superior Pump & Motor, we supply commercial and industrial pumps and motors and help with sizing and specifications.

What are your regular business hours?
Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We're closed Saturday and Sunday, and emergency service is available 24/7.
What should I do if a sprinkler head is leaking or has gone off?
If there's a fire, call 911. If a sprinkler is leaking or has activated without a fire, call us right away at (212) 334-6661.
Do you offer preventive maintenance?
Yes, including preventive service for fire protection systems, pumps and our Preventative Plumbing Maintenance Program.
